Thousands of people in the North East decided to do something different with their Saturday night, and hit the streets of NewcastleGateshead for The Late Shows on Saturday 17 May.

Even before the evening had started, crowds of people were queuing outside some of the venues. Beer tasting at Discovery Museum had visitors lining the streets outside to secure one of the limited places and NUFC fans, keen for their unique opportunity to be photographed on the pitch, started queues at 6pm.

Love proved to be a very popular theme at the Laing Art Gallery as over 1,300 people flocked to see the outdoor interactive art installation Full Bloom and headed inside the gallery to view the National Gallery touring exhibition, Love.

Other entertainment which proved popular was the full-to-capacity guided tours at the Castle Keep which attracted over 550 people and the Botany of Gin at the Centre for Life.

Down in Ouseburn Valley, The Art Works Galleries Fairtrade wine tasting proved a huge hit and they had over 700 visitors to their open studios. Whereas the Biscuit Factory drew in 520 visitors with Batik demonstrations, ukulele music and live paintings!

Anyone who fancied staying up beyond 11pm could go to World Headquarters for a discount with their Late Shows glowstick, which also proved to be a success with the more energetic visitors!
